History
Suburban Technical School was founded in 1970 by the GTE Sylvania Corporation as Sylvania Technical School and was first granted accreditation by ACCSCT, formerly NATTS, on January 9, 1972. In 1976, the name of the school was changed to Suburban Technical School (STS) and its campus relocated to Hempstead, New York. On October 9, 1976, the school was accredited under the name Suburban Technical School.
Today, STS continues to be guided by its founding educational philosophy and consistently updates the curriculum to keep pace with the changing requirements of the industry. STS provides educational management and supervision, focuses on hiring and training dedicated and experienced faculty, and ensures that the facility remains up–to-date.
In order to increase access to quality career and medical assistant training in New York, a Suffolk County branch was opened in Commack in 1986. It was later moved to East Islip in 1988. Due to a change in building ownership and a need for STS to expand, the Suffolk County School moved its location to Ronkonkoma, New York, in April 1995.
On June 19, 2001, Suburban Technical School was purchased by Premier Education Group, formerly known as C.E.C. Partnership, L.P. At that time, the facility was modernized.
The Suburban Technical School curricula are periodically updated so that the school can continue to be responsive to the needs of the communities it serves. Health-related fields have been, and will continue to be, a viable choice for career-minded individuals. In fact, there is a greater need for healthcare and medical assistant schools in New York than ever before. Studies done by the U.S. Department of Labor indicate the demand for trained workers in this area will continue to grow throughout the 21st century.
